How do you get a driver's license in Massachusetts?

Drivers aged 16½ to 18 get a Junior Operator License (JOL). Before the road test, you must hold your learner's permit for six months in a row with a clean record, finish RMV-approved driver education (30 hours of class, 12 hours behind the wheel and 6 hours observing other students), and complete 40 more hours of supervised driving certified by a parent or guardian (30 if you completed a driver skills development program). A parent or guardian must also attend two hours of driver education instruction.

Can you take the Massachusetts permit test online?

Yes. You start your application online and visit an RMV Service Center (or a AAA location if you're a member) to provide your documents. Once they're verified, you get login instructions to take the test online. You can also take it at the Service Center during your appointment. The American Sign Language version can only be taken at a Service Center. See the RMV's learner's permit page for details.

How old do you have to be to get a learner's permit in Massachusetts?

At least 16. You can't get a learner's permit at 15 in Massachusetts.
