If you're under 18, you can get an instruction permit at 15 while enrolled in driver education, including the behind-the-wheel portion. You must pass a vision screening, a highway signs test (15 questions, 12 correct to pass) and a knowledge test (50 questions, 40 correct to pass, about 45 minutes). Tests at a DMV customer service center are free and walk-in. If you're 17 or under, you can also take the knowledge test online for $10 with a parent or guardian monitoring. Can you take the Wisconsin permit test online?

If you're 17 or under, yes. A parent or guardian must monitor the whole process, there is a $10 fee per test whether you pass or fail, and you can try online twice. When you pass, a certificate of completion is emailed to you.

You can retake it no sooner than the next day, and you can take the same test up to five times in a one-year period.
