The Utah written knowledge test has 50 questions, and you must score 80% or better (40 correct) to pass. If you were licensed before, it's a 25-question open-book test.

How do you get a Utah driver's license?

At 15 or older, schedule a learner permit appointment with the Driver License Division and pass the written knowledge test (80% or better). If you're 15 to 18, complete an approved driver education course (classroom hours, 6 hours behind the wheel and 6 hours of observation) and drive 40 hours with a parent or legal guardian, including 10 after sunset. If you're 16 or 17, you must also hold your learner permit for 6 months before you can be licensed. If you're 19 or older, you can skip driver education by holding your permit for 90 days and driving 40 hours (10 after sunset).
